The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) has led an effort to create a technology community for transit operators statewide and has commissioned a standards working group. DRPT is interested in making real-time and historical data available to the public and to 3rd party developers in order to improve passenger information, government transparency and multimodal transportation options in the state and is using the working group to ensure statewide coordination.
