Description of Paper:

In light of the rapid changes in transportation and communications technology and an era of tight budgetary constraints, this paper evaluates the services, data collection methodologies and data dissemination methods that are currently being utilized by twenty global ATIS systems. The paper also evaluates what services will likely be offered in the future and broadly discusses non-traditional funding mechanisms such as advertising and sponsorships and the potential role of the private sector in providing these services. Whoever ultimately offers these services has the potential to play a significant role in mitigating the affects of congestion in urban areas.
