Description of Paper:
Gannett Fleming was retained by Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Four to design and evaluate an operational test application of a video based wrong-way detection system. The objective of the study is to determine the viability of video detection for wrong-way detection and potential for unrelated traffic or external phenomenon, low lighting, small animals etc., to cause interference to the system. The system will be compromised of static closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras streaming video over FDOT’s existing fiber network to analyzers at the SMART SunGuide Regional Transportation Management Center (TMC) in Fort Lauderdale where FDOT’s ITS operations is located.
